Summary
Will Byers was familiar with nightmares. They had plagued him for years, even if they hadn't always been about the Upside Down.
What he was not familiar with was shattered light bulbs and feelings of dread so intense he could only think of it similar to what he had felt in the field last year. Not from nightmares. Except he wasn't quite frozen. It felt almost like being beckoned closer, and he wasn't sure he knew if he could resist.
or:
Will gets his powers in season 3 instead and has to navigate as he tries to figure out what it is that he's going through while dealing with other issues in his life. Featuring Byler endgame, wonder twins, and a progression of events just different enough to tweak things. (This will span across multiple seasons.)

Summary
When Mike and El spend most of the summer running off to the cabin together while Dustin is away, it’s no surprise that Will, Lucas and Max spend most of their summer together just the three of them. What was surprising was how little for all three of them it felt like Will was third wheeling to the point that it makes sense that Will would be where the couple is, even as they go on what most would consider dates had it just been the two.
When some secretes come to light, those considered dates become real ones, even if just for the summer.
No one was expecting the jealously that came from Mike at this shift in dynamics, even when he only knew half the story, least of all the boy himself.

Will Byers and Boris Pavlikovsky are two people that never should have crossed paths, never should have worked even if they did, but now that thy have there was no letting go.

Will isn't expecting anything when he moves to California, even less when near all of his friends lose contact with him quick. Then he meets a boy that looks like the friend that he left back in Hawkins and knows that its a bad idea to be anywhere near him. But even bad ideas were better than being apart once he had spoken to the other even once.
Boris moves to Lenora in the months after Theo leaves for New York, and starts high school at Lenora Hills High. There, he meets one Will Byers, and both their worlds change for good.

Summary
It's November 6th, 1988, exactly one year after the defeat of Vecna and the Upside Down, and 5 years after the day everything started. While the Byers family is preparing breakfast, they assume Will is still sleeping in his room. But Will has been gone for hours, and nobody knows what happened to him.
OR
When Will Byers goes missing for the second time, the Hawkins gang get back together to find out what happened to him, and more importantly, who - or what - took him.
