    Summary

Samira exhales through her nose. It might have been a laugh, but he doesn’t allow himself to hope. “Missed me that bad?”

Despite himself, he laughs. It breaks through the lump in his throat, coming out gruff and shaking. “That bad,” he confirms, without a hint of embarrassment.

God, he’s going to fall off this roof. And it wouldn’t even be on purpose.
    -
Samira Mohan sells her soul to the army for medical school. Nobody understands that so intimately as Jack Abbot. Out in no man’s land, they manage to form something that neither can really understand.

After three years, it only takes one mass casualty incident to pull them back together.

    Summary

Jack didn’t go in much for praying anymore. No point, not when nobody upstairs seemed to give a shit either way. Praying was for altar boys and little kids and people who wanted their football team to win the Superbowl; for parents in his ER who refused medical care for their dying children in favor of speaking in tongues and yelling up the ladder to something that didn’t answer. Not for him. He believed in only a few things, and none of those were anything big enough to pray to.

Well, almost none. There’d been one thing. A person, really. Bigger than a person, though. More like a grand, orchestral concept, a hope half-divine, fifty-two percent of the reason he kept showing up to work for four years straight.

    Summary

Dr. Jack Abbot was an asshole.

Objectively, one of the most talented, competent physicians at PTMC. Begrudgingly, also one of the most handsome. But, categorically, an asshole.
    __

After the PittFest MCI, Samira is left to process everything she just went through, including the closeness she felt with Jack Abbot. When Abbot asks her to shadow him on the night shift, the weeks that follow are a test of strength for both Jack and Samira as they navigate their complex, evolving feelings for each other.

    Or

That part of her that was going to sabotage everything really, really wanted to call Abbot right now.

    Summary

When Collins pulls Mohan to the side and warns her about her new relationship with Jack, Samira tries to brush it off...mostly because there is no relationship between her and Dr. Abbot? It's strictly professional...she thinks. Sort of. Maybe not.

    ❍❍❍

“I‒I didn’t reject you,” She forces out. She watches as the words sink in, his eyes trained on her, probably feeling a number of things but conveying none of it. Then he takes a deep breath and she swallows hard. Finally, he turns away from the edge of the roof to face her completely.

“Are you only saying that because you think I’m gonna jump or…?”

She blinks, surprised. In all honesty, she’d kind of forgotten about that part.
