You had thought his silence had been a lesson. It was hurt, it was longing. But still, you had shaped them as he ordered, unaware of what was about to befall you.
The Master of Fate, he was called. However, here he was, hand splayed against the cold bark-covered tree, while he watched his own Fate slipping between his fingers: you.

This is a revamped version of a short story I wrote a few months ago, imagining what could have happened after the events of Snow's Embrace (the Master of Fate myth).

Tara wanted to show me the books she had been reading. Looking at her new collection, I almost spat my latte macchiato - smut books, they were called, a new term added to my vocabulary. According to her, it was the perfect form of entertainment, being also easily portable if downloaded onto my phone.
At first, those breaks between changing patrols had been uncomfortable. I couldn't pretend the words were not making me ache between my legs - and feeling like that in public was terrifying. However, the books were too good to simply stop reading them. They were addictive. And after a few days of training myself to master the perfect poker face, I was finally able to do it without giving away any of my feelings to outsiders. To everyone else, I was just a hunter on the job reading something interesting on her phone.
And now, sitting inside Dr. Zayne's office, my boyfriend, I was reading again.
