Summary
Fingon stops in his tracks, watching as Maedhros presses his hands to his face as if trying to hold something in place. He pulls one hand away, curling his fist around what looks like a shard of plaster.
Maedhros limps away from the trees, disappearing into the darkness, far away from the lights hemming the tree branches.
Fingon kneels down and picks up the piece of plaster, still gleaming white under the light of Tillion.
The plaster on Fingon’s palm is in the shape of a pair of sensuous, beautiful lips.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------After Thangordrim Maedhros, seemingly unscarred and whole, avoids Fingon. Fingon decides to find out why, one piece of plaster at a time.

Summary
It is a painful thing to sunder oneself so. As I am ripped apart from him, I feel a curdling wrongness as skin being sloughed from one’s back. I think he screams, but perhaps that is me.
Am I not the only part of him that matters?
I stand there, staring at him, the one who was once me, and I consider him as one separate. He looks no different, not really, but as I consider him, he seems lesser. He looks cut away, hollowed out as a broken shell, or a pitcher empty of water. There is a grey cast to his skin, the flush of color that might have graced the high planes of his face sapped white.
His eyes are perhaps the strangest, though.
Lightless and flat black as a wood elf, but worse, because there is no fire there, no pain or passion or precariousness. He is emptied out.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------After Thangorodrim, Maedhros discovers a way to remove his soul. This does not make things better.

“I am here to see your Lord, Maedhros Feanorian.”
“You have not answered my question. Who are you? What is your business with the Lord of Himring?”
The wind blows in her face, chapping her cheeks and causing her eyes to water. “Tell him that Aranye is here to see Russandol, the Red, to thank him for what he did for her in the Iron Hells.”
-----------------------------------------------------------During the Long Peace, a former thrall comes to visit Maedhros in Himring.

Summary
“Of course I love you as my father too. We can fuck our way through Dagor-Dagorath and I probably still will. It’s in our nature. We construct elaborate philosophies to justify our continued proximity to what should repel us. We fear that exile from the place that houses our pain may well mean exile from the only place that understands it,” Elrond shrugs, topping up Maedhros’ glass. “What begins as temporary coexistence turns into structure, and structure eventually gets mistaken for inevitability. Love grew, we say, as little might be thought. It is much the same now. We tell ourselves we've transcended, that our presence here, together and redeemed, represents evolution rather than a lack of alternatives. Aman offers me no exit from Middle-Earth, only a deeper room in the same house. With only squatter’s rights to boot.”
—Elrond arrives in Aman, finds that Elwing, Maglor and Celebrían have been intimate for centuries, seeks sexual solace with Maedhros, and ends up navigating the waters between endurance and complicity. Or: what do the children of atrocity owe those who perpetrated it, and what happens when survival becomes indistinguishable from desire?

Summary
"To make the choice a father should make if he wishes to be named a father, if he wishes to retain the title, to say yes, if I had the choice, then I would choose to not be homosexual if it means my son Elros would be alive today, it would require that I declare Fingon never deserved his place in my heart. That I stand with my back to the sea and sink our very lives as nothing but a shipwrecked fantasy. It should be so easy. A father must forever put his children first, before all. You know this, Elrond. But we were five years old when we met, Finnu and I. How can I cast those children from my heart?”
_____________
One night on the cliff-house porch, Comrade Maedhros tells Elrond where exactly fatherhood lay upon his list of regrets, and what exactly he meant when he told Professor Gil-galad that he "was not a gay, but a Communist".Series

Summary
“Curious. Elven hröa and fëa are connected, are they not? Are they not one, intertwined? Maim one, and the other shall reflect its defacement. Perhaps it is the marring of your fëa that your skin shows so plainly. Do you not feel it—the shadows inside you, the charred edges of your fëa? Do you not feel the seed of hatred blooming, extinguishing the light? Soon, it shall consume you all.”
“No,” he cried, “no, you lie! It burns bright. It burns bright!”
Fingon wants to know everything Maedhros suffered in Angband.

Summary
"You're cataloguing my deficiencies again," Maedhros said without turning. His voice carried that new quality it had acquired on the mountain, that carefully modulated roughness it had never carried before. He had far too long to think, of course, and vet his own thoughts. And when there were people around to listen again, he felt as if each word had to be vetted by a committee before release. “You’re not meant to be cataloguing my deficiencies when we’re on holiday. There are probably laws against such things in more civilised parts.”
