Steve smirks and turns his face to try and bite Eddie’s finger. Eddie throws his head back in a laugh. It's amazing how casual they are with each other now. He's never been this goofy with anyone, even as a kid. Eddie just pulls it out of him.
“Ok hottest excluding the contents of this car."
Eddie nods his head. "Correct. And the winner gets to pick a tattoo for the other to be redeemed within 10 business days.”

“Pssht, I can always get it up for your body.” Eddie turns his head to look at Steve finally. He blinks, then blinks again.
“Wow, I got a lot higher than I thought. We didn't do mushrooms right? It wouldn't be the first time I forgot. Mrs. Click’s face is insane on shrooms.”
“This isn’t a joke, you’re not high. Actually I probably am still high, but I'm not me, you are, so you’re still high. But is your body high or your brain? I don't know but we didn't do mushrooms. Focus!”
Eddie sits up and rubs his eyes then flinches. Yeah that eye bruise is a bitch. Eddie looks confused and touches his nose and flinches again. He looks at Steve and then looks down at his hands. Those hurt too.
“Holy shit."
“Yeah."
“Holy shit!"
“Yeah!"

Summary
Steve’s life is going pretty great.
They made it through the most recent apocalypse mostly unscathed.
Eddie is now Steve’s second best friend after Robin.
The three of them live together in Indianapolis while Robin goes to college.
Then it all changes.

“Tiffany? It’s been a while.”
She snaps her mirror shut and smiles at Steve.
“Steve! It’s been too long! How are you doing?”
“Good? It’s nice to see you, but why am I here?”
She points a thumb towards the bin next to her bed.
“Her.”
Steve walks over to see a sleeping baby wrapped up in a pink blanket and pink hat.
“The baby?”
“Your baby.”
Steve looks at the baby in front of him and considers his life choices up to that point.

Meanwhile Steve copes with fatherhood by giving his dear, purely platonic, virgin friend Eddie lessons in sex. Like you do for your bros. No romantic feelings at all.

Steve gives him another intense stare considering the offer. He reeeeally wants Steve to take the offer.
“I’m pretty goddamn frustrated."
"I’m pretty goddamn tough.”

Steve slips the mask over his head. The hood and eyes are black, emphasizing the round ghostly face a menacing expression and a stitched mouth. He turns around to face Eddie, putting his hands out in resignation.
Eddie hugs Steve around the neck and kisses the mask on the cheek.
Eddie: If you’re a good boy I’ll reward you later.
Steve raises his eyebrow and replies lower.
Steve: Oh yeah?
Eddie takes a husky tone.
Eddie: I would never pass up the chance to fuck the pumpkin king.

Ilya swallowed hard, his mouth dry as paper.
"Alexei and Zarina..." He started, and the words felt strange, distant, as if they belonged to someone else's life. "...got into a car accident."
He felt Shane's hands lightly squeeze his waist, his husband's body tensing behind him. He turned around to face him and saw the shock in the brown eyes, the slow, terrible realization of what that could mean.
"Zarina died on the spot," Ilya continued, his voice monotonous, numb. "Alexei was severely injured. He's in a coma."
"And?" Shane asked, but Ilya knew he was already connecting the dots. He knew the family history, he knew Polina, he knew enough to see where this was going. "What about your nieces?"
"That's exactly why Sasha called me." Ilya ran his tongue over his chapped lips. "Polina, my dad's widow, would never take on that responsibility. She's always hated the girls, always treated them like a burden. And I..." His voice cracked for a second. "I'm the closest relative. The only one left."

He also finds someone he never expected and very quickly cannot live without. Steve helps Eddie navigate his emotions, his recovery and their relationship, while trying to cope with his own struggles.
