He remembered a fire, and bodies of people he had never met burning around him. He remembered a beacon, and his own hand destroying something never meant to be touched by a creature like him. And then - he heard footsteps in Oakhurst for the first time in two hundred years, faces somehow familiar he had never met.

He grinned, an awful, terrible thing. “We’re both the monsters of Oakhurst.”
