Andrew shoots him a glance that, if someone is inclined to read between the lines, is almost offended.
“Are you done? Drowning starts to look like a palatable option compared to this torture.”
Kevin huffs out the ghost of a laugh. Andrew’s shoulders are already turning a bright shade of pink, even though he’s still wearing his tank top and he’s not planning to undress any soon. It’s all right. It’s Andrew. Kevin wouldn’t keep his t-shirt on at the beach even if his life depended on it. He clicks the bottle of sunscreen closed and hands it back to Andrew.
“Done, now. Are you still contemplating drowning?”
“Yes,” Andrew retorts, unfazed, flicking his sunglasses on with a sharp snap of his neck. “It would still be better than beach volley.”
He spits the words beach volley out with veritable heat. Kevin sighs, half-amused, half-exasperated.
“Hey, didn’t I turn down the guy who asked us to play?”
“Reluctantly.”
“Sport is sport, Andrew.”
Andrew pinches his thigh.
“You’re fucking insufferable, Day.”In which Andrew lets Kevin drive and, basically, shows him he is trying.
