Summary
“Just got the word from the officials, Metros are shutting Miitka down for the night," LeClaire says almost dispassionately. “Third period we’re up against,” LeClaire consults his clipboard, “Shane Hollander. Drafted 2009, current starter for the Laval Maples, posts a .905 save percentage.”
Ilya stays where he is, rolling the name around in his head once, without much interest.
Hollander.
Doesn’t ring a bell.
Inspired by that one twitter post, what if Shane was a goalie?

Summary
"We're setting you up with a billet situation," Fletcher continued. "It's pretty common for first-year players, especially international guys. Gives you a chance to settle in, learn the city, have someone looking out for you."
"Okay," Ilya said slowly, not entirely sure what a billet was, but not wanting to admit his ignorance.
He could guess from the context – he’d heard of rookies being assigned to live with older single players, veterans who could show them the ropes. Maybe that was what Fletcher meant. Connors maybe, he was probably a handful of years older than Ilya. Or perhaps Becker. Ilya just hoped it was someone who–
"You'll be staying with Nikolai Petrov and his family."
The words hit Ilya like a punch to the gut. For a moment, he forgot how to breathe.
"Petrov?" he managed, his voice coming out strangled.
__________________________________________________________________The Bears decide that Ilya should be set up with a billet for his first season. The idea of spending a year living with a man that Ilya is sure hates him is completely terrifying. And yet, it ends up being the best thing to ever happen to him.

Summary
“Y-Yeah, totally,” Shane replied. “D-Do you uh– do you know who that kid with Rozanov is?”
Scott laughed a little, tilting his head in confusion.
“Probably Rozanov’s kid,” he informed Shane, causing his brain to stall completely.
“You didn’t hear?” Scott asked, and Shane blinked, trying to reboot his mind from the crash that Scott had just caused. “It’s why he took time off,” Hunter informed him. “Found out he had a kid, I guess. Or something like that, I didn’t really get the details.”
Of all the reasons he’d thought of for Ilya disappearing for the past month, this had never crossed his mind. A million different thoughts raced through Shane’s mind. How the hell was Ilya a dad, and why hadn’t he told Shane and how the fuck did Scott Hunter of all people find out before him and—
And what the fuck was Shane supposed to do now?
_______________________________________________________________
After the tuna melt situation, Ilya suddenly disappears from hockey for six weeks, claiming some sort of family emergency. Shane showed up to the All-Star game ready to try and fix things, only to be shocked to find a little girl at Ilya's side with remarkably familiar blue eyes.

Summary
This has an MCD—but I promise I would never let them die in vain. I believe that beauty can be born from tragedy, and this story comes with the promise of a happy ending.
If you can’t put your faith in me, please put your faith in them:
“This was, hands down, the most heartbreaking, soul destroying, gut wrenching piece of writing, that is also simultaneously breathtakingly beautiful, to possibly ever exist.”
“Your views on life that you able to impart on your world is also incredible, with some of them making me stop and genuinely consider.”
“The way I look at life and love and endings...you changed that for me.”
“This story is so steady and comforting, even through the pain because you face it head-on, without flinching, with love and care and a gentle hand.”
“It is a beautiful and honest portrayal of how they cherish every moment, and make the most of every day.”
“I feel this story, with all its iterations, is inherently human. And that touches people who yearn for this kind of connection and family.”
“So many words in this story have comforted me, and honestly I don't think there are any words that could describe how much this story has helped me.”
