Summary
Five years after the world was ravaged by a zombie outbreak, what remains of humanity has learned how to survive in their new apocalypse. In their new normal, the dead wander the earth with insatiable appetites, families have been ripped apart, citizens have been abandoned, and the Reds thrive amongst the chaos.
When an unfortunate run-in with some Reds and an inconveniently-timed thunderstorm forces Soap to separate from Price and Gaz during their hunting session, he finds himself washed up on the doorstep of a wooden cabin. Only he's not alone.
Soap should probably be more worried about the masked stranger with a furrowed brow pointing an arrow at his chest, but there's something intriguing about him, secrets hidden deep within his heart and walls impenetrably built up. And even more shocking is the fact that the stranger allows him inside to take refuge.
What starts at that moment which neither realize is the beautiful unfolding of a love story between two people who were meant to find each other. It's about learning to trust again, the power of forgiveness, finding hope in the world that has ripped everything from you already, and falling into the arms of someone who will love you unconditionally.

Summary
An alternate first meeting, where Ghost and Soap meet each other in the field under infinitely worse circumstances than either of them would have liked:
Ghost wakes up in a pit under a building with a bomb attached to him, certain he's going to die. Soap, an EOD tech amongst his other specialties, is the only person available to at least try to save him. It should be fraught, and tense, and miserable all around, and it is; a whole lot of Ghost slowly losing his mind while Soap does everything he can to save his life. But it would probably be easier if Ghost wasn't a stress-flirter, and if Soap wasn't the kind of endlessly competent that he loved, and if, by virtue of their situation, they didn't keep ripping open each other's wounds and then patching each other back up again after.

Soap’s eyes practically twinkled, and Ghost watched as Captain MacTavish melted away and was replaced by his lover. Soap gently held his wrist, and took a moment to press their foreheads together to soak up each other’s company.
“After this,” Soap mumbled, licked his lip nervously, “After this, we should retire. I can show ye my hometown, an’ we can settle doon somewhere.”
Ghost tightened his grip, let out a shaky breath, and nodded. “As long as you Scotts have tea.”
Soap smiled, bright and easy. “Aye, you bet yer ass we do.”
Or: Ghost has lived many lives. His lives with Soap are by far the best.
