All Adrien wanted was to keep the peace and make sure everyone in his class stayed friendly. That was why he took the high road, held his tongue, and allowed Lila's lies to spread unchecked. He didn't think this was a big deal; sure, Marinette complained, but she'd endured just fine when he'd defended Chloe, so why would this be any different? And besides, who could be hurt by a couple of tall tales about celebrities and fake charitable work?
But karma is a stubborn thing. It can occasionally be deflected, such that a villain is protected from her well-deserved punishment, but it can never be truly stopped--especially when the Ladybug miraculous is involved. In those cases, if appropriate consequences cannot fall upon the villain herself, they inevitably descend upon the protector who upheld her lies, downplayed her cruelties, and shielded her from harm.
And by the time Adrien learns just what sort of punishment that Lila earned and that he must now endure, it may be far too late for him.

Not quite as considerate and tender, not quite as interested and obliging. Shen Qingqiu has carefully considered the matter, and decided that the special attention pleases him. He is the sort of person who likes to be treated better than others, apparently. Well, who doesn’t? “Apologies, but this shixiong was hoping to have a little bit of Shidi’s time and attention, enough at least for a cup of tea?”
Shen Qingqiu pretends to mull the matter over; he doesn’t want to seem too eager.
“Fine,” he loftily decides, and makes room for Zhangmen-shixiong to enter. “If Shixiong insists.”

Elrond opened his mouth. Closed it. Glanced at the rat again, suspiciously dry, suspiciously stiff, like some grim trophy, plopped there with way too much pride.
No. No, this surely was not what Gil-galad had intended when he’d been told to “deliver these records to Lord Celebrimbor and assist with any mapping.”

Lord Hightower called for the guards to remove the man. They had to drag Lord Swann out as he yelled his vitriol at the King. His words as he was removed would haunt the rest of King Viserys’s reign. “You have damned her with your inaction. You have abandoned your duty as protector of the realm! You are no King! You are a puppet that does nothing!”
To this day Viserys I is known as King Viserys, the Do-Nothing King.

That's right. One moment, I was just me, heading home after another long day, and the next... a car came out of nowhere. I don’t even remember the impact, not really. It was too fast. No flashes of light, no angelic choirs—just darkness. And then I was here.

Telemachus honestly thought the old man that showed up and started killing the suitors was a god in a shoddy disguise. He reacted accordingly, doing everything he could to help the man and keep him happy. It's not until the old beggar walks Telemachus up to the palace that he realizes who this really is.
