Se qualquer pessoa perguntar a Derek como ele acabou morando na mesma cidade que Stiles depois de quase dez anos sem manter contato, ele dirá que foi uma coincidência. Ele deixou Beacon Hills na mesma época que todos eles, viveu com Cora inconstantemente por um tempo e decidiu ficar em Colorado devido ao acesso à mata selvagem. Ele ficou tão surpreso quanto Stiles quando em um dia qualquer entrou em uma cafeteria e viu o outro ali.

Quando Stiles pensasse nisso depois, o que o levou ao limite foi o que ele não viu. Derek não se esquivou quando a mulher deslizou a mão pelo braço dele, apenas congelou e então esboçou aquele horrível sorriso falso que Stiles odiava tanto, mesmo que querendo recuar, se afastar. E, o pior de tudo, era que Stiles percebeu enquanto repassava a cena de novo e de novo na sua cabeça, naquela noite quando estava tentava dormir. Ele achava que Derek não teria se mexido mesmo que não estivessem vigiando o bar em busca de relatos de má atividade sobrenatural, porque tinha visto Derek fazer isso antes. Na verdade, aconteceu muitas vezes, pessoas o tocando. Não somente dentro do sobrenatural, embora parecesse que todas as outras coisas-ruins que passavam por Beacon Hills gostavam de assumir a forma de um humano sedutor e depois aterrorizar o Derek, mas, praticamente a qualquer momento que a alcateia conseguia convencê-lo a sair, havia mãos sob ele.
Dado o que Stiles sabia sobre Derek, isso… não parecia bom.
Agora, o que ele fará sobre isso?

Pac’s presence is like being directly under the sun — warm and bright, but maybe a little too bright, and Fit doesn’t understand why. He just knows he doesn’t like how he’s shrinking back from it instead of basking in it like he used to.
“You’ve been surviving for too long,” Pac states. Like he knows, because of course he does.
Fit gives a strained smile. He feels like he’s been broken open, but he can’t find it in him to try to clean up the ugly mess that spills out. Pac’s always had that effect on him.
“What gave it away?” he jokes dryly.

Summary
Ever since the Federation stepped in to ‘clean up’ the vast wasteland that was once 2b2t, life has gotten...well, technically better. The worst of the worst have been shipped off, leaving behind a small group of survivors chosen to help rebuild, among them the children left orphaned by the ceaseless violence. Pac and Mike have two little boys to take care of now, but with resources dwindling in their small corner of the world, their situation is becoming more desperate by the day, threatening to renew the chaos. When Mike discovers an unorthodox solution, it sets off a chain of events that will change what everyone thought they knew about their world and their lives.
