Summary
Wei Wuxian gets caught sneaking into Cloud Recesses.
But since he can't tell the truth - that he's just here to deliver his teacher's most recent love letter to her soulmate who's stuck in a cave - he tells a lie instead. He says that he's a Jiang disciple that had arrived late and so had snuck in through the gates. He hadn't expected the lie to work, sure that it would unravel as soon as they found a Jiang to verify it, but instead Jiang Yanli backs up his story, and even adds to it.
Which is how he ends up masquerading as the first disciple of Lotus Pier while trying to figure out how to get out of Cloud Recesses without anyone discovering that he's the disciple of Baoshan Sanren.

“There are no masks allowed in the Ghost Fortress, Heavenly Official,” he says. His voice is polite, but it too contains knives.
Hua Cheng can appreciate that. A blade is a blade is a blade. Sheathed or pressed to one’s neck, it is still just as sharp. There is no use pretending it is anything otherwise.
The man in front of him is a blade held up to Hua Cheng’s heart, though perhaps he does not know it yet.

The spirit’s black-pit eyes go wide and then he grins, revealing long, wicked teeth the color of tarnished silver. “Yes! Yes, I knew it was meant for his Highness.” The spirit nods to Hua Cheng, too, whose grin has widened to something almost obscene.
“Truly,” Hua Cheng agrees.

It should be impossible for a ghost to flush so red, Xie Lian thinks. But Hua Cheng has always defied all laws of possibility.
“I just mean— Here. You shouldn’t say that stuff here.”
“Because?”
“Because,” Hua Cheng says, hands twitching in his lap, “it makes me want to fuck you.”
The admission summons a satisfied grin to Xie Lian’s lips. “I am your husband,” he says. “Are you not allowed to fuck me?”
Xie Lian really likes it when Hua Cheng acts like the king that he is.
