    Summary

Jason doesn’t think much about what life would be like if he didn’t live in Gotham, if he wasn’t doing the kind of work he is now. He figures it’ll probably happen eventually—everyone retires, right?

He isn’t expecting it to go like this. Bruce exiles him from the place he’s lived his entire life, and Jason doesn’t know how to deal. He doesn’t have a purpose or a plan.

So what he does is: he gets on his bike, and he rides.

Or: a look at some of the strangest, most challenging days of Jason’s life. But, maybe, things turn out okay in the end.

    Summary

Clark heard it just as he stepped out the front entrance of The Daily Planet’s building. The sun had already set, a chilly autumn breeze dragging through his coat. It had been a late evening for him, catching up on drafts for his next few articles before some other emergency stole his attention from his work.

    “Kal-el.”

He straightened, perking towards Gotham. Something cold gripped his heart as he listened for that familiar heartbeat. The voice was unmistakable; low, rough, and steady, one that grounded Clark almost as quick as Ma’s. In battle, hearing it usually meant there was a plan, that Clark could worry a little less about details; because the man he trusted the most – with his life and the lives of his family – had it under control. It soothed Clark when he faltered, bolstered him when his strength wavered, and steadied him when he teetered on the edge of sensory madness.

    And that voice sounded afraid.

Clark was suited up and hurtling through the air towards Gotham before Bruce whispered again.

“Kal–” came his quiet gasp. “I’m sorry.”

For Clark, love is all about being there.

For Bruce, love is all about change.

For both of them, love is all about kindness.

    Summary

Maybe he doesn’t have a filter because of how tired he is, his mind too chemically addled to properly stop and think. Maybe he wants to keep an eye on Clark, make sure Superman heals and recovers fully, rather than have him shower here at the Hall and send him on his way. Maybe—

Maybe he doesn’t want to be apart from him, and maybe he wants to take care of him, and maybe he wants to be taken care of by him, and maybe he’s just drained enough and just foolish enough and just good enough at making up excuses that this was going to be inevitable anyway.

Whatever reason it is— whatever combination of reasons, most likely— the outcome is the same.

“Come home with me,” Bruce offers.

or: bruce and clark have been fighting monsters as batman and superman for over two days. they're hungry, filthy, and exhausted— so, bruce thinks it only makes sense to invite clark over to the manor to eat, take a bath together, and sleep.
