Basen fretted, sputtering about propriety, and his place. It reminded Jinshi entirely too much of Maomao. He pulled back from his shoulder and looked straight into Basen’s conflicted eyes, made dark by furrowed brow.
“Won’t you protect me, Basen?” he asked with pouting lips.
“Of course I’ll protect you,” he said, the stubborn determination fading from his face.
