Vigilantism is defined as illegal and/or unlicensed quirk use with the intentional goal of rounding up, attacking, or otherwise apprehending criminals or otherwise in a manner emulating the tasks of heroes in an offensive or dangerous manner.
Izuku reread the definition a few times.
It wasn't as though Izuku had never heard of vigilantes. He even had notes on a few interesting ones. He knew illegal quirk use was probably a big factor in it being, well, illegal. He just hadn't realized quirk use was what made somebody a vigilante. It was sort of odd. He expected the definition to be more… inclusive, he supposed. What if somebody just didn't use their quirk? It couldn't apply to mutations unless they had emitter or transformation qualities, right? It couldn't apply to-
It couldn't apply to him.
He couldn't be a vigilante.
They couldn't arrest him for being one.

Summary
Midoriya Izuku is intimately familiar with hopelessness. With the unfair reality that nobody is created equal. There are strong, powerful people who have their futures handed to them on silver platters through money or quirks, and then there are those born small and weak. They break down over time until there's nothing left but whatever skeleton they have.
Whatever it is, they cling to it as their reason to carry on. And if that reason breaks, then they let go. It's the sad truth for all those without power. Their skeleton, their dream, their hope. It's all they have worth fighting for. For some, that's their loved ones. For others it's just pure survival.
For him, it's being a hero.

Summary
Izuku knows, very well, how cruel the world is. He's known it since he was eight and his mom died. He's known it with every burn and bruise. He knows it too well. There's not kindness for people like him, barely even human compared to everyone else. He doesn't expect to find it anywhere but his dreams and online spaces where he can pretend to be anyone. Least of all in the form of rough hands and ruby eyes. It's a home for the first time in years, a place where he belongs. Maybe being on the wrong side of the law isn't the worst thing in the world. It seems like a small price to pay for a family.
Or, Izuku's mother died years ago and his father is a piece of shit. In his second year of middle school he stumbles across a dying Shigaraki and saves his life. It changes a lot of things.
But mostly how he sees the color red.

Everything seems fine until his mom dies in a villain attack, leaving Izuku on his own with nothing to hold onto but helping people. Follow along as he learns how to survive on his own and slowly lets people in.
