Summary
This meta is a rewrite of DA:TV using the friendship/rivalry system from DA2. In DA2, rather than gaining or losing "approval" with companions, you gain "friendship" or "rivalry," putting you on a spectrum between 100% friends or 100% rivals. Usually, companions with low approval hold you in contempt, sometimes even betraying or leaving the party entirely. With DA2's system, you can challenge a companion's beliefs while still regarding each other with mutual (if grudging) respect. Friendship and rivalry are equally rewarding; it's when companions have no particularly strong feelings for the player that things go wrong.
This meta covers: three possible paths for each companion (friendship, rivalry, and neutral/failed), how the city choice affects friendship/rivalry, how friendship/rivalry leads to multiple variants of NPC romances (such as Lucanis/Neve), and how companions affect the ending choices (fighting, tricking, or saving Solas).

Summary

Summary
Lucanis does feel guilty, sometimes. Spite can smell, taste, hear. See clearly, once Lucanis got out of the way. To feel, though… it just doesn't seem to come across the same. Maybe that's what happens, when you get forced into a mind actively pulling as far away from the body it's inhabiting as hard as it possibly can. Or maybe it's just a spirit thing. That's a preferable thought. Less likely—but preferable.
Spite, at least, doesn't seem too bothered by it. And it has been a somewhat convenient misalignment, occasionally. In a fight, unbothered by an injury. At the end of a particularly long day, easing protesting muscles and joints into a tub of ice water without worrying about objection. And with sex. Convenient, that Spite finds it puzzling and pointless, at best. Boring, usually.
The problem, of course, is Rook. Spite might find sex odd and uninteresting, but Rook? He's turned towards her like the sun from the first moment.
So, really—Lucanis should have seen this coming.

Lucanis Dellamorte asks Illario to help him with an information and infiltration phase of a contract and Illario agrees. Unfortunately, Lucanis underestimated the reality of the work Illario does and how, so very often, it's not so much smiling at someone until they drop their guard. Sometimes its crying and screaming (very convincingly) to get them to drop their guard. It's not for the squeamish.

“Rook’s assassin."
She's turned to Lucanis, startled, before the words have fully landed. He is already looking at her. His face is as cold as slate. They stare at each other as the blighted god continues in a voice quavering with umbrage, "His flesh could be given true wings. And a face that better suits one who carries a demon.”
Her hands flex with the need to touch him, to assure herself that he's whole, but she can't let herself seek softness when that's what made him a target in the first place.
She did this. She released him from his prison just to damn him to worse. It will end in ruin, and it will be her fault.
