“Oh, come on,” Lance scoffs. “We chase enemy Galra all the way out of our solar system, save all realities from extinction, and you can’t even enjoy it for a second?”
Keith prepares a sharp retort, but it dies when he processes the tone of Lance’s voice. Those words aren’t for Keith. They’re for himself.
Keith can’t count how many celebrations they’d attended where he almost reached out and clasped Lance’s hand in his. He’d always balked, but assured himself there was always another day, always another chance.
Then Allura fell in love with Lance.
Even with her gone, Keith can’t bring himself to disrespect her memory. He can’t take advantage of their grief—his and Lance’s—and justify making a mess of an already fragile atmosphere.

Summary
“Sorry, babe,” Keith says. He even smiles, no doubt proud of himself.
And Lance knows it’s his fault. He started it, after all, but at least the biting term of endearment made sense when he was the one doing it. Keith had been talking to him like they were some old married couple. The kind who’ve been married too long and don’t love each other anymore and gripe over meaningless shit, only managing to piss each other off even further.
That’s why Lance called him dear. Because it made sense in the situation. It was a calculated insult. A strategic jab.
Keith, on the other hand, is weaponizing the term of endearment without any rhyme or reason, simply to get back at Lance.
Or: Keith and Lance have gotten into the habit of using pet names as condescending insults. They're not really terms of endearment.

Summary
Maybe Lance is simply looking for something to get angry about. Better than remembering how very far he is from home. How very long it may be before he finds the arms of his family again. How very very small he is, in a big wide galaxy held under the thumb of a monstrous ruler.
So when Keith bristles, Lance pokes harder. When he snaps, Lance snaps back. They go back and forth, an endless spiral. Like a song stuck on repeat, and Lance can’t get it out of his head.

Summary
Wars never end neatly, and they rarely end quickly. It's kind of unfair that, after saving the universe, Lance still has to deal with evil plots, bad guys, assassination attempts, daring rescues, death, and bad dreams. Not to mention love. He thought he was done with all that.
Or: After the war, Lance goes home. His problems follow. Namely, Keith. Lance has no choice but to follow him right back, even when he disappears without a trace. Funny how that goes.

Summary
Keith doesn’t believe in fate. He doesn’t believe things happen for a reason, or that there is meaning to be found in every bad thing that’s happened to him. He also doesn’t believe he’ll ever be with Lance. But as he drifts through the abyss on the back of a space whale, he catches glimpses of other realities where he and his friend are inextricably tied despite forces beyond their control promising to tear them apart.
Lance is sometimes a telepathic merman, sometimes a patron at a coffee shop, and sometimes an android serving a year-long sentence for pissing the wrong people off. Keith might be a sailor, or a barista, or a professional smuggler struggling to make ends meet. It’s fucking weird, honestly, but so is living in the Quantum Abyss. Keith tries not to let it get to him. It still does, though. He wonders how he could ever get over someone when he’s forced to watch himself fall in love with them over and over again.

Summary
Hunk has always loved to hug. When he was little his moms used to always wrap him up in their arms and squeeze him until he’s squeal. As he got older he used to return the favour – wrapping them up in big bear hugs that lasted forever. It was his favourite part of family gatherings as he got older. His cousins – both the blood or love cousins – used to delight in Hunk hugs. They’d all line up for the opportunity to hug Hunk, joking that it was the best part of the gathering.
The urge to hug was always present for Hunk.
