& it feels like medication
Hollanov fics that made me feel medicated, unraveled. Exactly like the song, I imagine this what it must’ve been like for them throughout the situationship era, before, during and even after in their then established relationship.

“Shanya,” Ilya says. He considers and discards his next few potential sentences. “Moya lyubov.”
“Spit it out, Ilya,” Shane says, so Ilya does.
“The boys want us to fuck. They think sex ban has jinxed the team.”
Whatever Shane was expecting, it clearly wasn’t that.

Summary
Ilya’s wearing one of Shane’s t-shirts and can’t bear to take it off when they get in bed. He can do one pillow, or three, or none, or really just Shane’s chest, or arm. He’s a fucking octopus, sprouts extra limbs just to have every inch of Shane’s body covered, enveloped, safe. He never uses the really expensive automatic blinds at the cottage because Ilya hates when they’re closed. He’ll hold his eyelids open with two fingers each at night just to keep looking at Shane for a few more minutes.
“I love you,” he’ll say, eyes drooping, unable to fight it off, moonlight making his skin glow and his wintergreen fresh teeth sparkle in a sappy smile.
And “I love you,” he’ll wake up with, before doing anything else.
Maybe the only thing Shane really knows is that he’ll do anything at all to have this on each end of the day for the rest of his life.

Summary
Following an afternoon of sex and tuna melts, Shane goes searching for the explicit rules of what being 'friends with benefits' entails. In his humble opinion, they're nailing it.
Once friendship is on the table, Shane reconsiders the usefulness and immutability of the public rivalry narrative. Surely the NHL can make just as much money from a bromance as it can from a rivalry?
A missed call from J.J., a dinner at All-Stars, and an ill-considered mad dash to the airport send Shane's season in a very different direction to the disciplined three-peat he'd been planning back in October.
"This rivalry thing: it was everyone else who said we hated each other off the ice. There’s no rule that says we have to keep doing that forever.” Shane stared outside, past the blinding billboards and down at the streets below. “It was nice. Hanging out, last time.”
He knew what it looked like when Rozanov shut down, when he closed himself off and pushed the world away. He’d finish the conversation abruptly, curt, clipped, and retreat. So Shane knew he’d won when Rozanov finally answered with: “Are we six years old, Hollander? Asking if I want to play in sandbox with you?"

Summary
Shane’s brain cycled rapidly through a half-dozen celebrities, porn actors, Grindr profiles, every attractive bartender who’d ever served him a beer, trying to find a comparison for this level of outrageously concentrated beauty in one person, but he was drawing a blank.
The man—Ilya Rozanov, Facilities Attendant, his badge read—gestured around the supply closet. “I help you find something?”

Canon-divergent AU set during the 2017-18 MLH season. Shane Hollander doesn’t have a single Cup to his name when he meets a very hot and very annoying janitor who works at the Metros stadium.

The worst thing about being a traffic cop on Staten Island, other than the “traffic” and “Staten Island” parts, was that sometimes Shane was afraid he wasn’t even any good at it.

Summary
One year. One year to remake himself into the boyfriend Shane needs him to be. For one more year, he will be Boston’s Ilya Rozanov.
Ungrateful boy, loyal to nothing, his father always said, and maybe it was true. Next year he will sell himself to another country again. But he never knew until now how sweet it could taste to give himself away for nothing at all.
The twelve months between Boston and Ottawa.

Summary
After 20 years of hooking up, Rozanov says he’s retiring from hockey. Shane can’t take it seriously.
"Yeah right," Shane scoffs. “You won’t retire while I’m beating you in the cup count.”
Ilya smiles with perplexed fondness, as if he cannot fathom the hockey-logic driving Shane’s mind but remains enamoured anyway.

Summary
“Okay. Um. Hi. I wanted to introduce myself.”
“… I know who you are,” Luca said, and then kicked himself internally. Maybe he should have stuck to French after all.
"You're a strong all-round forward," Hollander said, and Luca was actually relieved when his instinct was to blush, or say something - anything - rather than to just white out on the spot. Shane fucking Hollander knew about him. Shane fucking Hollander's team had made the playoffs; they sure as fuck weren't getting top five first-round draft picks; but Hollander knew about him all the same.
"I hope this," Luca said.
"You'll be high in the draft order, I think," Hollander said, and Luca's stomach flipped over. Sure, he had - still had - a Rozanov poster on his wall, and he'd argue with anyone willing to take the other side that Rozanov was the better player of the two of them, but Montréal had the better team (or had, for the past few years; this year, Montréal was out of the playoffs and the Raiders were through to the conference finals). But praise from Shane Hollander was praise from Shane Hollander.
