Summary
Billy Hargrove’s classification test should have been a celebration — littles are rare, cherished, protected. But in the Hargrove house, rarity means nothing except another way to hurt you. At fourteen, Billy learns that pain can drown out panic, that self-harm can hide his instincts. By sixteen, a slip of the blade nearly kills him, and the hospital knows everything — his classification, the bruises, the fear. A police file opens, but Neil skips town before it can save him, dragging the family to Hawkins, Indiana. Billy survives the only way he knows how: by building armor out of scars.

Steve, oh how the mighty have fallen, Harrington find Billy scared, soaking wet and seemingly having dropped, in the locker rooms late at night when he's looking for a place to hide until his parents leave town again. Lucky for them both, Steve has become Hawkins best babysitter and determined to help Billy despite their past.

Billy Hargrove is a name that rings through people's ears like the aftershock of an explosion. He has, and always will be, dirt on the bottom of everyone's shoes. Selfish, arrogant, and doesn't care about anyone but himself. And when he isn't being all those things, he's thinking up new ways to get what he wants, and no matter who it affects in the process, he just keeps going. So, then, why is Steve Harrington looking down at the man himself, curled up with his knees to his chest, balling his eyes out behind a record shop in the early hours of a Sunday night? Maybe it's because Hargrove has finally hit rock bottom, and there was nowhere left for him to run.

Steve was quick to run a hand up the boy's back, softly cooing as he buried his nose into Billy's curls, "I know, baby. Can Daddy get up to get you some medicine?" Billy immediately shook his head hysterically, a small cry bubbling from his lips, "N-no, Daddy. C-can't leave Billy-Bee!"
