Summary
A retelling of Mega Man X. First in the Variables series.
A hundred years have passed since the days of the Blue Bomber, and Dr. Light's legacy has become a legend. During a dig, Dr. Cain stumbles upon the last of Light's creations. A machine that goes by the title of "Mega Man X".
Before he knows it, X finds himself thrown into a world he does not understand, his design used to create a new line of machines entirely. These fully conscious, sentient mechanical beings are known as Reploids.
But the future takes a turn for the worse, and some Reploids begin attacking humans. This new "maverick" behavior led to the creation of an organization dedicated to dealing with these random attacks. This organization became known as the Maverick Hunters.
When the leader of the Hunters, Sigma, rebels and declares war on the humans, he must rise up and use his buster. Even if he despises violence, he must take part in this conflict to save the world.
Because there is no one else that can.

X and Zero have fallen in battle. Sensing Sigma’s presence despite the destruction of his latest body, Dr. Light makes one last desperate attempt to prevent a horrific future under Sigma's iron fist. He activates a backup program, sending a capsule containing X’s base capabilities into the past to hopefully find someone worthy to inherit these powers. However, he couldn’t predict when in the past, only that it would emerge from the same spot. Luckily for him, the person who discovers the capsule is the perfect candidate to wield this great power.
Now Izuku must learn to harness his new power as he attends UA to prepare himself for all threats: present and future.

Summary
21XX, around the time the events of Mega Man X would've taken place. As the newly founded Maverick Hunters struggle with increasing Maverick attacks and relations between Reploids and humans grow tense, an unknown enemy threatens to destroy an already fragile peace.
Built specifically for combat, Slash Raptor is a highly ranked Maverick Hunter. However, a lifetime of fighting has turned the dinosaur into a loner bursting with loathing against his fellow Reploids. After his latest outburst lands him in prison, Raptor finds himself paroled with the help of X and Sigma, in exchange for joining the 17th Elite Unit on a dangerous mission.
Things unravel from then on, unleashing a chain of events that turns the lives of Raptor and other animal-themed Reploids upside down. Their powers, abilities, and identities stripped away, Raptor and company must learn their way around human emotions, newfound instincts, and social conventions in an increasingly hostile world.
