Summary
New York City, 1925. Jazz, flappers, parties, and violence. Fearing they’ll lose their hold on Manhattan’s West Side, the Black Kings send Merlin Emrys to spy on the Knights. The two gangs quickly become rivals, and there is no place for love in war.

“Daegal, no,” said Merlin, crossing the room and standing in front of the boy, his friend, staring him down until Daegal finally looked up. “I want you here. Really. If Arthur had to give me an assistant, I’m glad it’s you. I don’t think I would let Arthur give me an assistant if it was anyone else but you.”
“Really?” said Daegal, his face lighting up. Merlin couldn’t help but smile, warmed as he was by Daegal’s joy. He cared deeply for Daegal, more than he thought he could, and seeing him happy did something to Merlin. Something he couldn't quite explain. Whatever it was, it wasn't something that Merlin wanted to stop.

When Uther moves his children to Avalon High, Arthur finds himself thrown into a strange realm wherein he struggles with his immediate brotherhood with complete strangers, the way people around him seem to all have mental breaks, and figuring out what's reality and what's fiction-or at least, he thinks his flashes are fiction. The dragon beneath the school seems to disagree.
However, that's nothing compared to the odd feelings of protectiveness he feels over a complete stranger, a girl named Merlin, but she's dead inside, and Arthur can't figure out if it's because of some kind of trauma or because she's mentally deficient.
Something dark is going on, and Arthur is the one who is going to face it this time.
