What a fic!
Spoilers below
ch1 - Manfred is so cruel to Edgeworth, saying he cannot achieve perfection due to being 'tainted' with the blood of a defense attorney. I love Edgeworth's POV here. He is so conflicted about whether Phoenix really was the killer, since that's not the Phoenix he knew from his childhood, but at the same time, the evidence all points to him and there's nothing more Edgeworth can do. Also Phoenix's last moments with Edgeworth, before being taken away, asking him to prove he's not the 'demon prosecutor' and to believe in Phoenix's innocence is heartcrushing.
chapter 2 - Phoenix still believing in Edgeworth after Edgeworth convicted him is heartbreaking, especially when Edgeworth shuts him off, tells him to accept the situation, leave the past in the past, and tells Phoenix to not 'say goodbye' if he doesn't want to. That's crushing. Edgeworth feels conflicted and doesn't want to remember the past (which Phoenix evokes) but decides that the best way to resolve the situation is to shut Phoenix off. Damn.
chapter 3- Manfred's conditioning, you can really see the impact of it here, making Edgeworth believe he didn't run a perfect trial and overlooking the possibility of someone else being the culprit. Manfred scolding Edgeworth for mourning Phoenix and calling him a disappointment is also crushing. Edgeworth still gets his guilty verdicts and loses Phoenix, and Manfred still criticises him. To what end will he push Edgeworth?

Summary
As more years of his life go by, Miles Edgeworth finds it harder and harder to keep moving, or even just keep his head above water. His work isn't fulfilling anymore, his life is slowly falling apart. His constant night terrors certainly don't help. And the annoying, *infuriating* man that keeps knocking on his door and just won't go away sure isn't helping either.
...
A prequel to "He's gonna be okay (I need him to be)", exploring all that was discussed there. You're gonna have to read the first fic of the series, "Anniversary Traditions", at some point, I'll specify when it's best to read it as the fic progresses.Series

Summary
Miles Edgeworth's journey was not an escape, but a confrontation. He sought answers through distance and reflection, forcing him to face his past, his uncertain future, and his identity as a prosecutor—all while struggling with unexpected feelings for Phoenix Wright. This internal crucible culminated in a profound ego death.
A narration framing the infamous choice—“Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death”—not as a literal suicide, but as the metaphorical death that marks the beginning of his transformation.

Summary
Edgeworth is the kind of person to get a not-guilty verdict and immediately accuse himself of a crime no one has thought about in almost nine years. All the memories were rushing back to him, all those years of pain and misery and waking up to dreams of a scream that isn't his. Now that he's up there, on the stand, with an audience of people who already think he's a horrible person, he's decided to end all of it now. He's going to burn himself to the ground. Just so long as his idiot lawyer, Phoenix Wright, doesn't get involved.
--
Miles is the kind of person who you can tell has seen something terrible. He's a quiet, stoic, crushed little boy sitting in the back of a limousine he doesn't own, watching the only home he'd ever had fade away into the mist behind them. His father is dead, his killer not yet convicted, and Miles is terrified of what's going to happen to him, but at least Manfred von Karma has agreed to take him in. Obviously, nothing can go wrong.

Summary
You’re being a child, he thinks mutinously, disparagingly. There are worse things than this in the world.
All this to say, he isn’t in the best of moods when he walks through the door. Maybe things would have started differently if he had been. Maybe they would have been easier, or softer, or something completely unrecognisable built with warm contrast and everlasting days. Maybe.
Here, we have the blood.
(In which choices are made, secrets are kept, and Miles is old enough to know what he wants but too young to realise Phoenix wants it more.)

As he reads, tries not to imagine father’s face as the bullet hit, something snags in his mind. Two gunshots were heard sounding from the adjacent hallway during the time of the incident. Only one bullet was recovered from the victim’s body.
Two gunshots. Miles only heard the one he caused before passing out.

Summary
Following his own turn at the defendant’s stand, Miles Edgeworth realizes the consequences of his perfect win record — namely, an unknown amount of innocent people currently sitting on death row. But as Edgeworth works to reopen his old cases to free the innocent, word gets out to the true killers, who do not take kindly to his efforts. As he continues his crusade against the guilty, the assassination attempts grow more and more extreme, but Edgeworth shows no sign of stopping, much to the worry of Phoenix and Franziska. Edgeworth is determined to fix his past mistakes, all the while the truth behind SL-9 hangs over his head like a guillotine.

Summary
He’s ten years old, sitting at the Von Karma table, idly pushing the food on his plate back and forth. He hasn’t eaten in probably two or three days, his appetite swallowed in the wake of the anniversary of his father’s death.
“Tonight,” Von Karma begins, clearing off his own plate and dabbing at the corners of his mouth with his napkin, “I have decided that we shall host another mock trial.”
Manfred drops a stack of files onto the table, spreading them out in front of him. Miles’ stomach lurches to his shoes, a pooling dread taking its place.
The cover in front of him reads: DL-6, documents 1-18.

Summary
Miles follows Wright’s cases.
Who couldn’t? His eye is drawn to him; blue jay in a room of sparrows, loud and bright and glints that catch the eye. He’s the best defense attorney Miles has ever faced.
Miles never wanted to see him like this.
(Or: There’s no way Miles wasn’t watching that first trial against Franziska.)

Summary
Wright’s initially-seemingly-unwavering optimism appeared to dim, ever so subtly. He offered Edgeworth a calmer smile. “Hey, you’re prosecuting this case, right?” He asked in a poor attempt to make conversation with Edgeworth, dropping his hand to his side.
“Clearly,” the Prosecutor replied shortly. He cut off Wright, who had begun to make a joke about always being ‘Wright’. “Wright. Let this be a reminder we are not comrades, or even equals.” Edgeworth had a small, condescending smirk on his face as he turned away from Wright, holding himself high and maintaining himself, and rudely walked off.
“Ha. Yeah. Okay, see you!..” Wright called out to Edgeworth from behind, awkward and unprofessional, the latter not even stopping to say farewell as he made his way to the prosecution’s lobby.
OR
In which Miles Edgeworth is absolutely, definitely, totally not sick, and absolutely does not need to be taken care of by a big, strong himbo man. (But, on second thought…)
Set post-Turnabout Samurai and pre-Turnabout Goodbyes. Edgeworth is still unsure about his feelings towards the eccentric, bisexual mess that is Phoenix Wright.
