After regaining his body back in Wolfram & Hart, Spike and Angel go straight to the souled up vampire trial thingy, but instead of just heading back to HQ at the end, they accidentally unleash something far more powerful from a pillar of stone. Or rather, someone. Now tasked with helping a millennia old witch find her family, how will Angel Investigations defeat the Senior Partners, and what’s her twin sister’s secret plan? What happens when the punk becomes indebted to the witch, and can’t see his lady love in order to protect her? Most importantly, how will Buffy and Spike cope with not seeing each other for twenty years, only to find themselves on the same mission in old NYC?
Things go in order save for episodes 5x07 & 5x08 are switched and occur a month apart, veers a bit off canon, and isn’t 100% in line with the comics. Major show spoilers for season 5 of Angel. Mostly Angel Investigations ppl in the beginning before it brings in more Buffy characters. It’s a slow burn because they don’t even see each other until the last ten chapters

"Guys," Willow announces with a shaky voice as she puts down the receiver, "Cordelia just called. Giles was found unconscious and is being taken to a hospital?"
Willow's voice is high-pitched and beyond worried, instead entering the realm of denial, making every statement come out like a question, like she doesn't really believe what she just said either.
Buffy tries to process the information: "Cordy is in Bath?"
Willow shakes her head: "No, that's the weird thing. Apparently, Giles never made his connecting flight."
Buffy is resurrected. Everything else plays out a little differently, starting with a goodbye note found just a little too late to make it to the airport.
