The wasteland is a hard place, survival is often a struggle and always daunting. Two scavengers, friends or family, it matters little to them as they eek out a life after the apocalypse. They plan and decide they'd like a better life, have enough resources to trade, to live somewhere better, even enough to buy a way into a settlement or even a 'city' with walls or guards that are paid to defend them. They can only hope they don't fail, that their luck holds out as they scavenge an unpicked area of the local wasteland. But, the wasteland doesn't forgive and holds its own brand of justice.

Honestly, they’re kind of disgustingly perfect for each other and Dean’s pretty damn excited about staying with them the week before the wedding. He’s Sam’s best man, of course, and he doesn’t even mind that Jess has her own best man to share in all the organisational duties. The more the merrier, right?
Except Dean must have done something to epically piss off the universe because Jess’s best man just happens to be Castiel friggin’ Novak. “Try not to think about it,” Sherlock says from beneath him, one hand ghosting up John’s newly-exposed skin, across his chest, the soft touch making John shiver.
“No, I mean--” John starts, but has to stop as the humid press of a mouth begins a gradual glide down his back, its trail following the curve of his spine as he arches in surprise. “I mean, what’s strange is--I think maybe I should find this--more strange?”
“But you do find it strange,” says the second version of Sherlock in a low rumble, as he presses John back against his own chest again. Only now, John is surprised by the contact of bare skin against his. “And you *like* strange.”

Sherlock and John spend the night in Scotland after finishing a case. The sole Inn in town only has one room left...one bed. This would be fine - if not a bit awkward - if Sherlock hadn't developed a habit of snoring loudly. John suffers through many hours of sleeplessness before he discovers that skin-to-skin contact stops the noise.
"John lifts his right hand, wanting nothing more in his exhausted, frustrated state than to smack his best friend in the face. Hard. Instead, the closer his hand gets to Sherlock’s cheek, the slower the progress becomes. He grits his teeth again to control the tense, slightly-shaking-from-anger limb as he places it gently on to Sherlock’s left cheek.
To John’s surprise, the snoring stops as Sherlock lets out a quiet huff at the contact. He isn’t any more awake than he was just moments before, but he is blessedly, for the first time this excruciatingly long night, silent."
