Her eyes dart to the board. Words she doesn’t speak live up there. Cappuccino. Macchiato. Americano. Americano? Did it look like they were in America? She should ask. But her pride is gnawing and ridiculous and it claws at her throat. She doesn’t want to be taught. Not by him. Not right now.
“Just… plain coffee!” she says.
His eyebrow raises slightly. “Drip?”
She doesn’t know what that means. She decides it means yes. “Mm.”

Summary
A second chance.
She supposed that’s what it was. Nothing changed, really. She still talked to the same people, said the same things, fought the same fights… she knew it was wrong to complain. Coming back after dying should’ve felt like a miracle, and sometimes, it really did. She supposed everything had a downside, though. It would all have to end eventually.
She remembered how her story began, and how it ended. Igor’s sentiment rang true in her head. Memento Mori: Remember that you will die.

Par for the course of being Shinjiro Aragaki was threading the line of existential nihilism, but he was a far cry from apathy, all of him tough skin but soft heart. Too fed up to live yet too scared to die Shinjiro carried his weight and was glad to just exist and yet – and yet – when a girl with crimson eyes told him his time was nigh he didn’t react with outrage and instead asked how she knew.
She told him she could read the context clues, see the death flags. “It’s ok, I have them too.”
It made sense that she’d be the only one that could remove them as well.

As soon as you both stepped into the room, a gruff voice piped up with an irritated undertone. “Yo Aki, told ya to stop buying only chicken breast and broccoli during your grocery runs.”
Glancing upwards, you noticed a tall young man, probably a bit older than you, scowling at Aki with an exasperated expression. His brown hair was tied back in a casual ponytail, and he sported a black sweater with sleeves rolled up, as he stood by the kitchen fridge. His eyes, a gentle brown hue, contrasted with the chill of his present demeanor.
He turned to you and softened his expression, though not quite pulling his lips into a smile. “Sorry about that. I’m Shinjiro Aragaki, this idiot’s roommate.”

And he shouldn’t bother, but it wasn’t long until an uneasy drum possessed his chest when the sun shone on her just right, or when she often found herself staring fixatedly at her own hands.
