Sam straightened, wiping his dusty hands on his knees. “Alright, you’re gonna- this is gonna be O.K., yeah, Bucky?” He turned halfway to Zemo. “Too dark in here- can't see the source of the blood. I need a light."
“I have yours.” Out of nowhere, Zemo procured Sam’s phone. Sam pinned him with an incredulous stare, which the baron took without so much as blinking.
“Why do you have my-?”
“It was safer in my hands. You were flying. Your phone could’ve fallen,” Zemo responded with his very unwelcome calm.
This matter-of-fact statement was punctuated by the low thump of Bucky crumpling to the ground.

Somewhere in the garage, Jason squeaks to a stop again, but this time, there’s no shouted exclamations, and the footsteps don’t start again. Dick furrows his brow. It sounds like he stopped near the Japanese cars, and Dick can’t even remember what’s over there. He picks up his pace from where he had been meandering through the garage and beelines to where he thinks Jason is, the sudden silence unnerving him. God, what if something’s wrong, what if—
Jason is standing, arms frozen at his sides, breath shallow, jaw clenched tight, eyes the size of dinner plates. When Dick sees what he’s staring at, he can’t help the smirk. Jason turns his whole head to look at Dick and says, in a near whisper: “is that a Supra?”
“Yeah,” says Dick, “that’s the Supra.”
OR
Bruce requests that Dick try to bond with Jason before the adoption and leaves zero instructions on how to do that. Dick improvises.

“Jason, what are you saying?”
Jason’s lips stretched into a frustrated snarl, as he turned to face Dick in a defensive stature. His arms were crossed to protect his heart, metaphorically and physically.
“Are you stupid Dickface? Did spending too much time around Daddy bat leave you incapacitated of noticing? I’ve been smoking since I was thirteen! I fucking started cutting since I got here!”
Dick’s expression was so painful Jason had to turn away. His eyes were filled with tears, and the heavy lines on his face seemed downturned and weighted immensely with guilt. He didn’t remember his older brother having dark bags as a permanent accessory or seeing the haunted gaze reserved just for him.
Jason wasn’t a ghost, but his family keeps proving that otherwise.

Or: Jason has been struggling with self-harm for a long time. It finally goes too far, and Bruce saves him.
4/21/26 - Hello! So sorry to disappoint, but I am having a pretty rough go of it, and I am going to be pausing this work. I'm not sure for how long yet, but probably at least a month, because that's around when my school gets out. We love being a third-trimester junior looking at top 20 schools! Literally kms. Two years have passed since his parole.
It had already been three years when he was informed in prison about his son's death, and everything went to hell for him.
After those two years of freedom, he stays away from crime, works, attends his scheduled therapy sessions as part of his rehabilitation program, and currently suffers from insomnia.
But these last few weeks, something changed.
He doesn't know why he receives several nightly visits on different random days of the week of the new Gotham player, who has quickly become known.
Red Hood visits him at his apartment and talks to him as if he knew him.
