Then there’s Bob, straight across from her in the back of the room, in the corner again. His hair is dusty and he’s in this blue sweater and sweatpants riddled with holes from when he stepped in for the mission he wasn’t supposed to be on. He’s looking at the pantsuit-woman, with his hands hanging loose against his sides like he hasn’t got a thing to hide. Yelena had seen him only hours earlier in the vivid coloring of an East Coast sunset, getting shot at by multiple field agents with a diverse variety of arms and numerous rounds of ammunition. He’d refused to standby while they sent in an extraction team - humans he said the minute they stepped into the tower.
Just Bob, she thinks, watching his hand go further up right before she meets his eyes -

It was an innocent thing, the way they curled into the shape of each other; her breath on his neck, his hand on her stomach, a tangle of limbs that made it hard to know where the void started and the light ended; made it hard to know which was which.

Bob shakes his head. “I don’t think I’m supposed to be strong.”
“Then it is good thing you have friends who are,” Alexei says warmly. “They’ll protect you. We will. зуб даю."
He stares at Bob so intently he fears he might frighten the man, but Bob doesn’t shy away from his gaze. Instead, he looks right on back, like he was hanging on every word.
“Besides,” Alexei goes on, “there are important things beside strength. You are kind, and sensitive, and only one in whole place who knows how to clean dishes.”
Bob laughs wetly, and that was really all Alexei wanted.

She thought about the way his smile lines had carved into his cheeks only minutes before. The way he’d gone after the Void- himself- to protect her. The way he effortlessly brought laughter and joy to the tower day after day, even when the team had just dragged themselves back in from a grueling mission or PR stunt. There were so many reasons.
“Not so you could be a big bad super hero, Bob. Because I saw myself in you, and it gave me something to fight for. And then I spent time with you, however short, but it grows longer every day and only makes me more sure. You might carry a Void with you, Reynolds, but the world would be a much darker place without you in it. I don’t want to return to that world.”

Summary
**SEMI PERMANENT HAITUS**
Jax was just trying to help Kinger with a project, not knowing why he was sad all the time. Not knowing why he could barely get out of bed and has lost interest in almost all his hobbies. He drowned himself in work, trying not to think about who he’s lost, or really his feelings at all.
Kinger desperately wants his code to be adopted, knowing it’s the right thing to do. But the companies that are forcing AI into everything refuse because it would make them lose profits, and Kinger is getting sick and tired of it.
Ragatha can’t seem to drop her mask, even outside of the circus. No matter what, she feels like she has to play the part, dancing around for everyone else to enjoy.
Pomni can’t seem to find validation in herself at all. She doesn’t have anything to look forward to other than the numbers on her Uoutube channel going up, so when they start plummeting, she will do anything to get it back. Even if it means sacrificing her own mental health.
Zooble can’t feel comfortable in their own body, and they don’t know why. They do, but they don’t. It’s all they think about, and they don’t know how to handle it.
