It's a pretty unrealistic conclusion, all things considered. But he didn't know how else to explain it.
Shuichi is stuck in a time loop.
Forced to relive the same night over and over... that cruel night where someone dies in that hydraulic press. Shuichi's confident that if he can stop these events from playing out- if he can save that someone's life- then time would progress normally once again. He just... has to figure out how to do that.

Well. When you're the target for a murder, things become a little more difficult. As Shuichi's foot hits that bottom step, he effectively springs the trap that should have taken his life and begun the killing game--and yet somehow, he survived, leaving the rest of the class shocked at the attempt on his life, and even more surprised when they discover that one of them really did succumb to a separate attack.
Shuichi had thought, had hoped, that after the first failed murder attempt, his attacker would have given up and left him be.
Oh how wrong he was.

“No— lying about how many hours I— ugh, never mind.” Honestly— he had expected this new world to be different from Japan. It had knights, magic and demi-humans after all! But people not sleeping and relating that state with a terminal illness called Sleeping Beauty Syndrome still took him by surprise.
Or: Magic and demi-humans are not the only things that separates Lugunica from Japan. In a world in which no one but Subaru sleeps, everyone is sure he has a terminal illness.

November Sixteenth began with a busy morning, full of last-minute preparations and battle strategy. Later, he’d suited up and headed into battle, for what he naively hoped would be the last time. Tommy had led the charge, Tubbo at his side, and everyone else trailing not far behind.
It had been going well- so well, that as the minutes dragged on, Tommy had been certain that the TNT would remain deactivated, and that he’d be able to sleep in his own bed that night. But it was never that easy, was it?
He was chasing Punz down when it happened.
Tommy’s heart was pounding in his chest beneath the netherite, but he couldn’t give up the chase. Then, without warning, Punz skidded to a stop. Tommy stopped, watching him curiously, but keeping his grip on his sword tight.
There was a flash of light, and right in front of Punz stood an Ender Crystal.
Shit.
