He was well aware that he wasn’t supposed to feel anything, though admittedly he had dismissed that command a long time ago.
His eyes should not have the ability to be blinded, pulled or prodded in a way that could physically harm him, yet his first reaction had still been to shy away from the light.
After his eyes crept out from their hiding place however, it was only then he realised he was alone.
