“Statement of Jonathan Sims,” the recorder plays into his ear, hissed and cracking. Jon sounds so tired. “Regarding a childhood encounter with a book previously possessed by Jurgen Leitner.”
Martin goes still.

But, well, he’s having trouble thinking of a name, because, it needs to be right, she needs to like it, because he’s basically throwing away the name that she wanted for him, isn’t he, so she’s probably going to be upset, and maybe if he picks the right name, then she won’t be upset.
So he needs to pick the right name.

Summary
Jon squints up at the block of apartments. The sky behind it is dark grey, threatening rain. Some of the windows are lit, and some of them aren’t. Tim lives in Flat 15, according to his employee records, so pretty high up.

There’s a cat staring out of a ground-floor window. Looking straight at him. It looks just like the Admiral, ginger and fluffy. It meows, silent, and puts one of it’s paws up onto the glass.
Jon smiles at it, thin and thready. “Hello,” he says, though there’s no way the cat can hear him over the storm.

“Seatbelt,” Basira says. Jon reaches up, pulls the belt across his chest, clicks it into place. Safe and sound. Basira turns the key, and the headlights light up. It’s raining, a low patter against the roof of the car as they pull away.

Jon’s not sure what the proper procedure is, when waiting for your coworker to blind herself. Outside, beyond the reinforced glass doors, rain hammers into the pavement.
-Jon tightens his grip on Martin’s hand. It’s soft, a little damp, the fingers slightly curled inward. “Not much further,” he says.

"Rocky did not understand human names and titles when we met. Eridian names longer, give information on Eridian's home, associations, skills." For the first time in ages, he positioned two of his arms together, forming the design that Grace thought of like a family crest, a single design bisected.
"You should teach me to read those before we get to Erid, so I can be polite." As Grace considered the linework, already picking up on some vague ideas from the shapes in Rocky's carapace, something else occurred to him. "So… I picked 'Rocky' because your outer shell looks like stone."
"And for inspirational story of athlete who defeats human system of poverty to become great champion. Eye of the tiger."
"Retroactively, yeah." Grace bent at the hips, getting to Rocky's 'eye' level. "So what'd you name me?"
