Summary
Number one rule for working the night shifts at the sketchy gas station in the middle of butt-fuck nowhere was to not look at them, and they would leave you alone. They weren’t even supposed to see you if you didn’t look at them - just flicker the lights, rattle some shelves, and inflict the fear of death into your bone marrow.
Then, one night, one of them with stupid eyebrows and a serious attitude problem chose to come in only to start yelling at Zoro, who had done literally nothing to deserve it.

Zoro checked his phone, saw that he'd been assigned to room three. It was Monday night, the third week of the school year, when tutoring officially started. The schedule gave him a name – Sanji Vinsmoke – and noted that he'd taken all three of the hour-long slots. Either a freshman who had skated into acceptance with the bare minimum qualifications or an upperclassman getting a taste of the real work that came after Calculus classes were over.

40 year old Sanji meets 23 year old Zoro on the stairwell leading up to their apartments.
From that day forward, Sanji decides to cook a portion for Zoro, too, arguing that he'd do it for anyone, that he wasn't special.
Except, Zoro sounded and acted like a wounded animal, and it tugged at Sanji's heart.

“Congrats, Marimo. Turning up after months and months and then years of disappearing without a notice. You got lost, idiot swordsman?”, the Cook spits, his hands balled to fists.
Ah, Zoro ponders. Cook’s upset.
“I got challenged. Took a while. ‘m not getting any younger.”, Zoro replies, trying to sound remorseful. Not very successfully so.
Sanji squints his eyes and snorts. “I don’t have time for you, Marimo. Go be annoying somewhere else.”, he hisses and turns back around, fiddles with the desserts again and yells out orders at his staff. Zoro doesn’t leave, stands there, as solid as a rock, wondering about the conversation he just had with the Cook. They’re not teenagers anymore but somehow, they don’t seem to have gotten any better at communicating with each other.
