By Blake’s crooked, toothy grin and raised eyebrow, she doesn’t buy Yang’s casual stroll to drape her arm around Blake’s shoulders for a second, but accepts her hello kiss anyway, tilting her chin up.
“Heard all about your adventures,” she says as she spits a little sand out in a way that’s somehow graceful. It’s a little insulting, frankly. Yang’s been trying to get rid of the stuff for ages. “Have fun?”
“Immensely. What’s that?”
Yang reaches for the box, knowing exactly what Blake’s going to do yet pouting exaggeratingly when Blake slips from her grasp, smiling secretively. “Wouldn’t you like to know? Maybe it’s not for you.”
“It’s for me,” Yang declares. “And that’s why I asked.”
Blake huffs. “Oh really? Come get it then.”

There’s a melody spilling out of her mouth, a hum that coats her throat like a hot cup of tea that feels familiar but she doesn’t know why so she lets it flow, eyebrows knitted as she tries to pin it down but it slips through her fingers like water.
She's wondering why she hasn’t played in so long, reaching for one of Zoey’s journals to jot down the notes for later when it hits her what she’s singing and she stops, suddenly cold again.
