Hunter hasn’t been sleeping well.
I mean, none of them have been, if the pitter patter of Luz’s footsteps crossing the hall into her mother’s room was any sort of give away, although Gus and Amity seemed to be having the most success thus far. They’re good at exhausting themselves into relatively peaceful nights, and Hunter can’t help but feel a little jealous because it seemed no matter how tired he was, nothing was sufficient enough to drag him into the world of unconsciousness. He’s just been so wrapped up in his head about so many things. Overwhelming thoughts of protect, protect, protect, scenes of his uncle – of Belos – splattering against the wall into a blackened puddle of tar replaying in his mind, and that sharp, paralyzing fear over a new realm about which they were all completely and utterly helpless to… when the sun went down and the moon came up, it all swarmed him without rest.
So without rest he went.

Today was not a good day.
It must be easy when you’re doing something you love, Willow thinks, or at the very least, it’s a lighter lift. It isn’t when every second you spend doing what you do is like a living nightmare in a place that’s literally populated by living nightmares, but hey – it isn’t like she’s not doing her best! It might not look like it to the outside witch (or even the inside witch, some days), but she really does try her absolute hardest to be a good student, honest. She takes good notes that she can’t understand and works tirelessly to get her assignments in on time, even if a child could do them with greater success and half the resources, and she studies hard for each and every one of her practical examinations.
It’s just that it doesn’t click. She’s done the work, she’s put in the time, she’s tried – she really, really has – but it just… doesn’t. It doesn’t. She doesn’t, it doesn’t, her magic doesn’t, it just… doesn’t.
