Vash’s eyes stay open just long enough to watch the tendons and veins in Wolfwood’s right hand flex under his warm brown skin as he manipulates the lighter, mesmerized by their movement, and the last thing he thinks of before succumbing to sleep is that he’d like to feel those tendons and veins under his fingertips. He isn’t totally sure how long he’s out, but he knows that he feels more comfortable than usual once he wakes up.

They’d bonded quickly after that first night around the campfire with the bounty hunters. After Nicholas had managed to get Zazie to fuck off, he’d joined Vash on top of the SUV and essentially shoved him over to make room. He didn’t seem to mind, though, given his giggling and compliance, adjusting his body so Nicholas fits right next to him. Their heads rested together on Vash’s duffel bag, and they watched the stars and the worms light up the sky in silence. It was a comfortable silence—strange, considering Nicholas barely knew anything about him, but he let himself enjoy it regardless. When he’d woken up the next day, he was on his side with Vash’s back to him, and his arm loosely draped over the blonde’s narrow waist. When Vash woke up, he’d only smiled at Nicholas and said a soft, “good morning, Wolfwood.”
