“Shut up, Mike. Just—"
Will stormed up to Mike, mouth parted, chest heaving, and shoved his fingers in Mike’s hair, gripping at the base of his skull. Mike winced a little, accepting his punishment, until he saw the look on Will’s face.
“Kiss me.” Will stepped closer, “Kiss me again, Mike.”
It had been seven years since the party ended in Mike Wheeler’s basement that night after graduation. His friends moved on without him; living the stories the paladin once wrote for his beloved cleric, his bard, his ranger, and his zoomer. Mike stayed in Indiana, he worked as an engineer, he came home to his cat and ate microwaved dinners. He had been drowning in a sea of conformity, grasping at the only lifeline that ever made sense to him, his imagination.
Or- Mike Wheeler ends up in New York with no plan, wondering if his former best friend still lived in the city. He felt aimless, close to giving up and going back to Hawkins, when he saw a painting of his younger self hung in a gallery, a plaque next to the frame reading, “First Love-W.B”. Mike’s world turned upside down once again, when he was faced with the reality that he’d always been too scared to admit. He had to find Will.

Dustin wasn’t done. “You’re cheating!” he accused, pointing at Mike. “No one gets that lucky!”
Mike leaned back in his chair, grinning like he knew exactly how wrecked Will was beneath the table.
“Maybe you’re just salty ‘cause your bard keeps failing stealth checks. I’m just closer to my sorcerer.”
His thumb swiped through the wetness clinging to Will’s skin, slow and deliberate, before he lifted his hand to press two fingers against his own mouth. His tongue darted out, tasting, eyes locked on Will’s flushed face. The game board blurred.
OR: Mike fingers Will under the D&D table and then ruins him on top of it. That's all.

Summary
Nearly two years after graduating from Hawkins High, Will Byers had what he’d always wanted. Control. He’s in charge of his life day in and day out.
Mike can’t sleep, write, or do much of anything, really.
Mike didn’t show up to the airport last summer, and Will didn’t come back to Indiana - until he found himself on the Wheelers’ doorstep at Christmas.
In which Mike and Will haven’t spoken in over a year, and neither of them quite know how they ended up on a road trip back to California as roommates.
Or, with a little bravery, some interference from friends old and new, and a whole lot of butter, Mike and Will might actually stand a chance of being honest with each other and getting what they want.
