Porsche blinks and the haunted expression is gone, Kinn smoothing it over with something neutral, but there’s still something fragile at the edges of it, like a crystal figurine balanced on a ledge. Kinn’s body relaxes in a way that’s purposefully casual, tucking his outstretched foot back onto the bed.
“You were in the bathroom,” Kinn says. He phrases it like an answer rather than a question.
Or: Porsche left Kinn in their bed with nothing but a note. In the aftermath of the shootout, Kinn can't stop thinking about it.

He doesn’t say anything else. The air’s so heavy around them that it feels like being in the middle of a scrum, the weight and heat of all those bodies pressing down on you. Danger always feels like hockey; it’s the most dangerous thing Ilya knows, except for this. Everything dangerous in his life involves men’s bodies and just how close he can get to them. A year after mysteriously dropping out of the 2009 draft, Shane Hollander is signed by the Boston Raiders, right behind Ilya Rozanov. Eddie tugs his face into the curve of Buck's shoulder before he can lose the nerve, Buck's pulse fluttering wildly against the tip of Eddie's nose.
Buck is struggling after the events in New Mexico. Eddie decides to move in with him about it.

Summary
Shane never got over what happened in that last season in Montreal. The first year in Ottawa was never supposed to break them like this. Neither of them know it's the last time they will argue like this. After a brutal loss and a worse fight, Shane vanishes-taken by the one person Ilya has spent years trying to ignore and forget. When the case ends in Ottawa River, everyone else accepts the inevitable.
Every except Ilya. Because Shane has never been good at letting go. And Ilya has never been good at giving up on him.Shane disappears into the river-and Ilya is the only one who refuses to let him go.
Everyone else believes Shane is dead; Ilya believes he's still fighting his way home.
