This is Artemis' reality. Having isolated herself deep in the Elderwood for a decade, she no longer knows what it's like to live as a person. All alone, her identity a secret, she lives every day out of pure survival. Haunted by the memories of her past which keep her trapped in an endless solitude, she sometimes yearns to be able to walk among people again.
She had always told herself that it's safer the way she lives, until a broad-shouldered miner makes a fatal mistake in the Elderwood, forcing her to act. Now, she feels his pull coaxing her into the light, but the call to the shadows is equally as compelling.

Falling into a new world with no memories of your previous life can be terrifying - but Kaylee was lucky to emerge in Palia, near Kilima Village, where everyone is a stranger at first, but most of the foreign Majiri are welcoming, friendly and eager to help the human find her place in her new life.
As time flies by, relationships are formed and deepened and Kaylee discorvers some soft cores under hard shells.
One Majiri is particulary special to her, right from the beginning, but she has to prove herself in so many ways first, before Eshe lets her see behind all her walls eventually.
With the help of Chayne (who will become her shepp) Kaylee tries to make a difference in the lives of the villagers, but not everyone is open for her sometimes unconventional methods (she was a physiotherapist in her previous life and brings therapeutic massage to Kilima).Can Kaylee help Eshe improve the relationships with her detested husband and her rebellious daughter? Or is everything in vain in the end, because some damage done in the past is beyond repair and the trauma inflicted is just too deep?

While Xulaera battles with her unwanted flashbacks and aggressive temper, it doesn't stop her from doing anything she can to protect her younger sister. Kylatria struggles with feelings of dejavu and lacking any solid memories yet does her best to spread joy to those around her.

They rarely spoke aside from official mining business and even that could be considered a stretch. She would approach with his letter, and he, the man of few words, would end up doing all of the talking. She would nod gratefully and then take her leave. Rarely saying more than a yes or no with a nod. After a few visits he’d learned a few of her expressions, she never said a word to him, but those had always spoken volumes.
