This isn't the first time Black Mesa has caused problems, and it certainly won't be the last. The difference this time is that Aperture has to deal with that mess.
GLaDOS had a good feeling about her particular test subject, minus the whole not-talking thing. She was good with portals.
Dottore had a good feeling about his particular test subject. She was smart enough on her feet, and resilient too.At Black Mesa, a crystal of unknown origins triggers a "resonance cascade", tearing a hole through the space dividing the two worlds. Black Mesa so chivalrously dumps this crystal- and whatever comes out of it- on GLaDOS to deal with. Dottore is just as curious as she is- willing to put his former plans on pause, even.
If the tags scare you, don't worry, Dottore ends up with no one. :-)

It's been a very long time since GLaDOS let both of those dangerous mute lunatics go, more than long enough for them to have died of old age. So, when she got bored, and decided to make an android body for herself to explore the outside world to do science out there, she was not expecting to see the smaller one, along side it's tall sibling. Nor was she expecting them to tell her that her former test subject was still alive an in trouble. And she definitely wasn't expecting to be led to kingdoms of humanized bugs.
AKA: GLaDOS and Chell reunite in Bellhart. Hornet, Ghost, and Hollow are there too, and are also reuniting, but that's less important.

And to add insult to injury, GLaDOS decides to give Chell some upgrades, just to make her that much of a problem for whoever ends up the survivor's enemy. An alternative universe where Wheatley almost kills Chell, now no longer corrupt, and Glados is now in control of her once pristine facility, she has many punishments in store for Wheatley. Wheatley not quite believing that the monster who almost killed Chell was him. He's submerged in guilt and would do anything to make up for his monstrous mistakes he's done to his only friend. But before he can even apologise to Chell Glados is going to make sure he pays for his mistakes of taking over her facility and almost killing her best test subject. His first dire punishment. Testing. Now he really was wishing he was in Android Hell.
