Of all the ways to loop back, this had to be the stupidest by far.
Kalim shot up out of his bed, shaky hands flying to his neck as he felt around to make sure that he was actually alive. His heart was beating out of his chest as his eyes frantically shot around the room.
He took a moment to collect his thoughts. Okay, he was okay, he was alive and that was the important part.
Don’t think about the feeling of landing in the sand, the resounding crack as he landed on his neck, and the shooting pain that overwhelmed his senses as his vision shot in and out.
Don’t think about the way that he couldn’t move, don’t think about the way that he could see Yuu and Azul looking hesitantly at his limp body as Floyd gently nudged him with his foot, noting how Kalim’s neck was at a “funny angle.”
He was fine. Everything was fine.

So, Kalim escapes as soon as his last class is dismissed, and he takes off to the dorm to find solace way out in the desert. He lets loose his wild magic, letting the storm soak him to the bone until he’s numb. If only Jamil could give up instead of tracking him down and still trying to protect him. If only a confession hadn’t slipped in their argument. If only Kalim had approached Jamil himself about these feelings weighing heavily within him.

The day went the same as it’d always gone. Jamil woke him up, helped him get ready– And then they had breakfast with the other Scarabia students, before moving onto the morning march.
The only anomaly? Kalim had done this all before.
Had been complacent in disbelief and denial. Had simply reinforced his own incompetence as an excuse. It was pathetic how he’d let them walk all over him. How he’d let them turn on him.
And for what? Jamil must’ve known it was a stupid plan. Kick him out of his Housewarden role legitimately. Then what? Become Housewarden? Pff, as if. His family would’ve had a fit. What did he expect? That Kalim would lose his role? Maybe even his heirship? Or maybe they’d bribe the Headmaster even more to keep him in that role no matter how much the other students tried to fight against it.
‘Spoiled brat,’ they’d think.
