“You should be careful out here,” Ike said to change the subject. Partly, anyway, since the topic was still concern for Soren, but this time he meant it in a more immediate and physical way. “I’d hate it if a strong gust of wind came along and blew you into the water.”
He was so small and light that he probably wouldn’t even make a splash when he hit the surface of the waves.
Was that… a laugh, though? “I’m on better terms with the wind spirits than that, but I appreciate the concern.”
True; Ike had always been a little bit in awe of Soren’s command of the elements, even in the beginning when his wind spells were too weak to be useful in a fight. Biting back his own smile, he gave into the temptation to catch the edge of Soren’s cloak with his fingers, a tiny anchor point whether Soren thought he needed it or not. “I’d rather not test that. I can’t lose you.”

Carefully, Ike maneuvers through the grass, forging his own entrance. He manages to clear the space between them, and he opens his mouth to call for Lyn when he hears—
Mist.
Ike shakes himself. He catches his feet tipping backwards, as if to protect someone behind him. But he stops his body from turning all the way around. He knows Mist isn’t there. He left his little sister in Tellius, with the rest of the world he’d known.
He focuses on Lyn again, wincing at the cut on her cheek. Her breath is curt, afraid. She reminds Ike so much of Mist that it hurts.
And he hears it again—“Ike.”
Shaking his head, Ike calls out. “Let me handle—”
“IKE!”
Long after the wars in Tellius, Ike and Soren come across a Sacaean girl and help her on her own journey. On the way, a couple of familiar faces accost them.
