Summary
The world was in perfect balance.
Half the year would be filled with sunshine and kind rainfall. The Summer and Spring were times of kindness, warmth, prosperity and tranquility. It was the time of new growth, as flowers bloomed from amongst the freshly-sprouted grass.
But that was only half the year.
The God of Sunshine; younger brother to the Goddess of Rainfall, would depart for the Land of Eternal Winter once Summer was finished. His absence led the goddess of rainfall to grow hateful and mournful towards the world. Her soft, caring rains would turn cold and icy by the god of sunshine’s departure, plunging the world into a dark, cold Fall and Winter. Only when her brother was returned, did the goddess grow happy again.

Making potions, that is. It was an incredibly stormy and cold night mid-June, possibly the 16th, when it happened, and thank the stars Scott was up late working on the potion that needed moon drops and the rain because she was able to hear the calls for help from deeper in the woods.
Hearing that Scott casted a light spell into the lantern before pulling on her boots and a cloak, before heading out into the storm to find the person who had called out for help, leaving Elle her familiar in charge.
It took a little bit and a few more screams of help before she found the person who was yelling for help. It didn't look good.

Scott breathed deeply, trying to hold in his excitement long enough to eat breakfast. He'd been waiting for this for months. He had been so certain he wouldn't get the job, but he'd applied anyway, just out of sheer hope that maybe the stars would align.
Apparently they did.
He'd been practically vibrating out of his seat ever since he'd signed the contract. This was what he'd always wanted. Ever since he was tiny he'd known he wanted to be a vet who specialised in magical creatures. He hadn't changed his mind on that through the years, not even when university tried to kill him off or when his family members tried to tell him horror stories to get him to change his mind.
This, despite the downsides and the dangers and the hard work, was his purpose in life. He just knew it.

“Wait- wait!” He quickly spins around, ignoring the feeling of the skin on his knee’s being scraped as he grabs the bars. “I didn’t do anything wrong!” He pleads for forgiveness as the footsteps of his captors dissipate, watching their lamp light disappear up the steps.
“Gods, stop screaming, wontcha?” A voice from behind him startles him. He whips his head around in the direction of the voice, taking a deep breath and steadying his hands.
‘Remember Avid, certainties and uncertainties.’
“Who are you?” Avid asks, straightening his back at the sound of footsteps approaching him.
He can hear the man hum, his voice light but teasing as his footsteps circle the man. The spot of light illuminates a blue flicker and Avid’s eyes catch onto the man, following him as he circles. “I think you are in no position to be asking questions.”
Avid frowns and slowly stands, shaking as the floor under him lurches. “And why’s that?”
The man laughs and his footsteps stop in front of him, blocking the small sliver light. “Why? My friend, you’re on the way to your doom. You and I are goin’ to the gallows tonight.” -
