Blinking in surprise, Genya bites down on her lip to keep from laughing. “No, no. It's painless. Bloodless, even. My work is more delicate than you can imagine.”
“So, how does it work?” Guaire asks with wide eyes, cupping his hands together. “Does the Queen drink a whole goblet your blood every day, and that's how she stays young? Or is it a teacup in the morning? Does the King drink your blood too?”
Muiredach slaps a hand over his own face. “Tam's spear! You really do need to think before you speak. You're not a child anymore.”
“Don't start, you make me look like a dewy bairn.” Ruaidrí drains the last of his drink and pushes away his empty plate. “Stop pretending like you don't want to know yourself.”
