Starscream wasn’t a dumbaft.
He was well aware of the fact that he had off-lined at some point, through some kind of execution, the strain of it vaguely pulling at his spark. He was also fully aware of that the Autobots had found him in one of Shockwave’s labs and that those little humans had something to do with that as well.
No, what really worried him was the fact that his memory banks had large parts of it missing. Now all these bots and humans are all telling him that he was their ally at some point. Yet, for some reason none of them want to explain what exactly happened, why there is a Autobot/ Decepticon ceasefire, and why his supposed friends didn’t intervene.
It all was rather suspicious in his humble opinion, but for now he’ll play nice with the small and annoying yellow scout.

"This isn't about us!" Optimus says, louder than intended. He berates himself for losing his composure when Megatron's lips curl into a smirk. "I am willing to do anything to keep Cybertron safe."
"Safe from me, you mean," Megatron says, gesturing towards the dark halls of the Nemesis outside of Optimus' prison cell.
"Yes.”
An arranged bond is a dangerous, loveless union in which one's death can have catastrophic consequences for the other. It's a trap with no way out.
It's also Optimus' only chance to end the war, so he proposes a deal Megatron is unable to refuse.
