Skip is complaining about finals, mostly—something Norman is glad to be on the other side of, and he thinks that doing another damn degree might just kill him—and the conversation shifts to the upcoming break; how happy they both are that it’s almost here, what everyone else’s plans are, they even talk about the damn weather like some old married couple. A white Christmas.
It should maybe feel nicer than it does. Ain’t that something that people get all excited about? Snow on Christmas. Seems like the sort of thing, and somewhere in the back of his mind is a memory, snow crunching under tires and two bodies leaned up against him in the bed of a beat up truck. It takes him a moment to claw his way out of his own damn head, and another to realize that Skip has been talking still and he hasn’t been paying a lick of attention.
