“Mister McCullum!” Mary exclaimed, her piercing blue eyes lighting up as he opened the door, tear tracks still tacky on her cheeks, “have you seen my brother?” The question sent a sliver of unease through the hunter's heart, one that mixed with the reddened skin around Jonathan's sister's eyes and churned unpleasantly in his gut.

When McCullum is attacked and wounded steps from the Pembroke Hospital on a trip to make peace with the Brotherhood of Saint Paul's Stole--by a human--it becomes clear they have more worries still, and they need each other still.
