Lumine has been crowned the next for the throne after her twin brother, Aether, ran away. What the people of the Empire of Khaenriah don't know is exactly she has little power until she has a male heir, which, being a secret council, makes all major decisions for her. This council claims to be the closest to Celestia, who urges them to have the power of the other 7 nations if they wish to survive without a god. In recent decades, after many of the old councils lost their sanity, alchemy has started to spread to the other 5 nations, especially in Sumaru and Mondstat, leaving Khaenriah without its leverage to keep the nations under its thumb. So, to keep its control over the other nations, the council has decided to copy an old, liyuan tradition that was used by now dead gods, to form a royal harem for Lumine to not only produce an heir, but also to have a hostage from each nation with some political power.

I was a fighter and because of how I act and sound, I am often called ‘robotic’ and ‘mechanical.’ Nothing about me is ‘caregiver-like.’”
Flins’ eyes creased. “It is precisely because of who you are that I chose you for this task. The ward you will be taking care of, Aino, has a crippling affliction towards humans. She runs at the sight of them and can’t stand being in the same room as them. Even she finds my presence difficult if I stay too long.”
Receiving a strange request from Nod-Krai, Ineffa leaves her life as a boxer and home of Natlan behind to act as a robot caregiver for Aino, a ward of the Chudomirovich mansion.
Or, a modern Nod-Krai AU in which Ineffa is human but she has to pretend to be a robot for Aino’s sake.
Or or, Flins doesn't know how to take care of kids and leaves it all up to Ineffa.
Based off of the Manga and Anime, Mechanical Marie by Aki Akimoto. No knowledge of Mechanical Marie is necessary to read this.

Summary
This fanfiction was born from frustration with how Genshin Impact portrayed native cultures — in a shallow and stereotypical way.
I began reimagining Natlan in 2024, long before it was officially released, and have been developing this world throughout 2025. My intention was always to create something more respectful, symbolic, and culturally grounded.
Here, themes like cultural erasure, ancestral spirituality, resistance, and collective trauma are not relegated to side quests no one talks about — they are the soul of the story.
Despite heavy criticism and opposition, I still believe the Natlan I’ve created offers a more thoughtful representation — one that honors not only Indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples (as should’ve been done from the start), but also my own Indigenous and Afro-descendant ancestors.
This story is my attempt to give voice to what was silenced by our own community — to imagine what could have been, if there had been real listening and not only hate.
