I remembered sitting down as Johnny cut and bleached my hair.
I remembered sitting with Johnny in the coldness of the old building, reading Gone with the Wind as we drank Pepsi and ate baloney sandwiches.
I remembered Dally coming down to see us and taking us to Dairy Queen and buying us actual food. The memories that came after that were intense, all fuzzy and disoriented.
I remembered a hot, blazing fire.
I remembered hearing Johnny's blood curling scream as I passed out on the grass after Dally dropped me to the floor.
I remembered seeing Johnny lying in that hospital bed, the deafening silence of the moment telling me all it needed to.
I remembered running down the lot at full speed as I watched Dallas getting shot and thrown halfway around, dying before he even hit the ground.
I remembered everything flashing before my eyes before my body fell forward and slammed against the hard concrete.
I remembered waking up in the church again. My hair was still long and brown, Johnny was still alive, and it was just a damn nightmare.

Rocky can still feel them. He’s sensed them ever since Grace first crossed the tunnels to Rocky’s ship, the faint sensation traveling through the xenonite to the sensors on the ends of Rocky’s claws. There are vibrations of two others beyond the tunnel, echoing faintly from the interior of the Hail Mary, soft as whispers but completely unmistakable. There are two others on the ship, and Rocky has no idea why Grace is playing dumb.
(Or: Ghosts still send out vibrations, and Rocky is lucky enough to pick up on them)

And what does this carbon copy of Colt Seavers do when he sees him? He runs.
And maybe Colt Seavers will regret chasing his doppelganger down when a 400-pound rock spider comes to his doppelganger's rescue.

“You— You shouldn’t… you shouldn’t.” Simon doesn’t elaborate. Ryland doesn’t need him to. They both know that being seen like this would be a catastrophic mistake. Because Simon has an issue, and he suspects that Ryland might have one too.
Simon really, really likes Ryland. He likes him a lot. He likes the way he smiles at him, wide and bright, and the way that his hands feel, securing bandages over his arm.
OR
Simon and Ryland grow up on Eden together. It doesn’t change much.
