Every answer was a repeat, an obvious answer to his ears but not his brain. Jungwon. Jungwon would miss him, Jungwon could convince him to come back here, even though Riki knew he would never do that. And Riki would miss Jungwon the most.
They say you'll remember your first love. No one tells you what to do when it ends.

At the tiny airport, he’s the only passenger under sixty. On a bulletin board, a flyer reads:

There, between hostile roosters and endless peach trees, Riki meets Jungwon—a beautiful, overworked young doctor with illegal dimples and a past just as unexpected as his own.
One lunch delivery turns into a many. Weeks stretch into something more. And somehow, Riki starts falling—for the town, for the quiet, and for the boy who makes everything feel like home.

"Probably," Riki responded.
Jungwon chuckled, hearing it made Riki chuckle too.
"Do you ever feel like you're the only person who still feels it, like the other kids don't?"
Riki let out a long breath. "Like I'm lying?"
They both said "yeah" at the same time.
"I feel like I'm not supposed to still be scared. I should be able to go to school, come out of my room and stuff, you know?"
Riki nodded deeply, because he knew. Really knew.

And then his eyes glance over his own pale face, and he sees it.
All of his teeth have sharpened out. Miniature razors dragging themselves along thin slabs of ivory— each tooth a dagger, with his canines elongated past their natural point.
They’re the teeth of a predator. Of a rabid animal. When he takes it all in, his eyes grow to match the size of the elder still standing behind him. It’s only then that Jay lets his lip drop, but by then it doesn’t matter; Jungwon is darting forward himself, hanging over the sink and tugging his mouth open by the corners with both hands. He closes it, opens it again, and repeats.
Over and over and over. Those teeth are still there. Over and over and over. They don’t go away.
“Jungwon.” Jay’s face in the mirror is equal parts beautiful and haunting. “I don’t think you were bitten by a dog.”

Summary
If Jay had to be stranded in any part of America, he was glad that part was his hometown that he had been refamiliarizing himself with the last few days. At least he sort of knew the layout, and there were a few people he could still vaguely remember the phone numbers of, thoroughly ingrained in his mind as a child and hidden away like sleeper agents until there was a need to recall them. And his English was still good enough that he could speak with locals and figure out a plan to make it to the concert a few states over.
So no, the problem was not where he was stranded, but rather who he was stranded with.
Sunghoon can drive, but can't speak English. Jay can speak English, but can't drive. Together, they make one (supposedly) comprehensive unit that have to make it to Chicago before soundcheck.
30 hours to drive. 7 states. 3 timezones.
And only two and a half days to get there.
What could go wrong?

“No?”
“No”. Sunoo breathes in, breathes out. “It feels like a seduction”.
