Summary
Things were different after the mountain.
For one thing, when Jaskier met up with Geralt again, it was with a refugee princess in tow. Somehow this wasn’t surprising, given the way Geralt’s life often went, but it did create a different dynamic.
Beyond that, though, Geralt was different. Softer, somehow. Like he was actively trying to smooth away his hard edges, and his face often constricted with the pain of it.
Jaskier didn’t quite know what to do with it.

Geralt hadn't realised just how lonely he was before Ciri had moved in with him following the accident that tore her family apart. His life had just been work, sleep, eat, repeat. He had never expected to become a single parent but Destiny had other plans for him and now he wouldn't change it for the world.
Now, if only he could get Ciri's blue-eyed teacher out of his head then everything would be fine.
Or a fireman!Geralt/teacher!Jaskier fic that no one asked for, and yet here we are.

[Please heed the warning about graphic depictions of violence. There is a lot of torture in chapters 5, 6, and 7. It's not especially gruesome but there's quite a bit of it. I don't know why I felt the need to be so mean to our boys.]

A few months after what happened on the mountain, Jaskier sends Geralt a letter to apologize, to say he wishes they had been more honest with each other. Geralt replies, and thus starts the promise of a better friendship between them. But Nilfgaard marches on before Geralt can truly apologize, and he's trying to get Ciri to the safety of Kaer Morhen when he hears the news: Jaskier the bard died.

"Who does this belong to?" It's a simple question - one that keeps coming up whenever Jaskier is involved. At first, Geralt can ignore it, but soon enough there's an answer on his lips. What a pity, then, that Jaskier isn't really his.

Firstly, I vehemently disagree with JK Rowling's transphobia, and the xenophobia and anti-semitic tropes in the books.
After the war, Andromeda is so consumed with grief she struggles with Teddy, so Harry takes full custody of the child, becoming a parent at the young age of just eighteen. When he reaches out to Narcissa Malfoy to be a part of Teddy’s upbringing as she is his great aunt, and Draco is his cousin, new bonds form.
