His fingers slide slickly, as if aided by the wetness of blood. Stack knows damn well the snake didn't get him. If anything, it'd been Smoke's fingers on the line – Smoke, whose flash of irritation has faded into a quieter concern, disguised from the world by the tense set of his jaw. But Stack would know his brother's face in Braille, and he tries for a smile he already knows won't reach his eyes.
“You said we should put off opening?” he prompts.
OR, Smoke and Stack push the juke joint's opening back a day. It might just save their lives.
